Connect to Pelion Device Management

Step 5: See the device resources in Device Management Portal.

Your device is now connected to your Pelion Device Management account.

The example program exposes a numeric LwM2M resource. LwM2M stands for "lightweight machine to machine" and is the protocol IoT devices use to communicate with the server to receive and execute commands. "Resources" is the name LwM2M gives to the readable and controllable aspects of IoT devices, such as their sensors.

You can use the Device Management Portal to monitor and control the resource exposed by the application. The resource's value is initialised to 0 and is incremented each time you press the button on the device or each time a button press is simulated (depending on your example application - see below).

  1. To see the device, go to Device Management Portal's Device Directory page. The most recently added device is at the top of the list.
  2. Click the device ID to view all its information.
  3. Select the Resources tab to view the device's exposed LwM2M resources. Scroll down to locate Digital Input Counter resource.
  4. The counter resource will be incremented automatically every 5 seconds. Additionally you can use the serial port to interact with the application and increment the value of the resource every time you press a key and send a character.
  5. Click the corresponding path name to open the graph and see the button press count.
  6. You are now connected and can use Pelion Device Management to update your device.

    You have:

    • Imported the example application for your device to the Online Compiler.
    • Generated a developer connect certificate that authenticates your application with your Pelion Device Management account, and a developer update certificate that enables your device to receive firmware updates remotely.
    • Put the application onto your device.
    • Checked the device resources in the Device Management Portal.
